Peer Advisor (PA):
Serves as an orientation leader for a group of 15-18 first-year students. Beginning initial contact in July and working through the first six weeks of the fall semester. Essential functions include guiding and directing first-year students through the August Experience and working as staff for LEAP sessions.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum 2.75 GPA
- Sophomore or above standing
Compensation and Contract Commitments:
- Must attending 5 days of training in August one week before August Experience
- Full-day commitment throughout August Experience
- On-call for first-year students until classes begin
- 1 month contract, paid stipend
Peer Mentor (PM):
Assist FY 101 instructor in fulfilling the FY 101 Course Purpose and FY 101 Learning Outcomes by assisting with lesson planning and execution, providing support and resources and attending all FY 101 training and class sessions.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Sophomore or above standing
Compensation and Contract Commitments:
- Must attending training sessions in August the week before August Experience
- Must attend all FY101 classes the week of August Experience
- Approximately 3 hours/week once classes start
- Compensation starts at $10/hour
Gladish Learning Center Study Group Leader:
Study Group Leaders help students master a specific class by holding regular study group sessions for students in that class. They focus on understanding major concepts, developing effective effective problem-solving techniques, understanding professors' expectations, and mastering the language of the discipline. They do not lecture or re-teach the material, but focus on asking questions to harness the power of the group and help direct students toward finding their own answers.
Position Qualifications:
- Two recommendations by a subject-area professor
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Successful interview with Director of Gladish Learning Center
Compensation and Contract Commitments:
- Average of 4-6 hours per week - attend lab section of assigned course and hold study group session(s) regularly throughout the semester
- Compensation starts at $10/hour
Gladish Learning Center Tutor:
Tutors help their fellow students with a wide range of assignments from all majors and disciplines, including papers and presentations, lab reports and statistics homework, and even independent studies and personal statements for jobs and grad school. In all their work, the goal of the tutor is to help students become more effective and independent learners. Rather than just showing them how to do a homework problem or write a thesis statement, tutors help students gain the skills necessary to excel on their own.
