1. What is the Gladish Center for Teaching and Learning?
The Gladish Center for Teaching and Learning offers academic tutoring, mentoring and coaching free to all students at Hanover College. Our goal is to help good students become better students.
2. Where is the Gladish Center for Teaching and Learning located?
The Center is located in Duggan Library on the 1st Floor.
3. What are the hours of the Learning Center?
The tutors are in the Learning Center for walk-ins from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. every Sunday through Thursday during the Fall and Winter term. No appointment is necessary during our walk-in hours. Also, students are welcome to study in the space at any time.
3. Do I need an appointment to see a tutor?
No. The Learning Center welcomes all walk-ins during business hours. We make every effort to have most disciplines covered during open hours. If you are uncertain, check the tutors list to see a list of tutors and their Open Hours so you can visit during a time that best meets your needs.
4. What should I bring to my tutoring session?
Make sure that you bring the syllabus and/or assignment sheet from the class for which you need help. In addition, bring the text and the writing prompt or assignment, making sure that you've done the reading and given a good faith effort at the assignment. Finally, bring the work that you've already started with you to the tutoring session.
5. What are Study Groups?
Study Groups are Hanover's version of Supplemental Instruction. Supplemental Instruction is an academic support program that provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer led sessions open to all students in the class. Click here for the Study Group schedule.
5. Is there a charge for tutoring services?
No. The Learning Center's services are free to all Hanover students!
6. How do I make an appointment outside of walk-in hours?
If you would like to make an appointment, fill out the Tutoring Request form at tutoring.hanover.edu. We will do our best to respond within 24 hours to your request. Or, if you know a tutor you would like to work with, you can email that person directly.
7. How can I become a tutor?
Tutors are hired during the winter term to begin working the next academic year. In order to apply for a Learning Center position, you must first be nominated by a Hanover faculty member. The call for faculty nominations goes out in mid to late January. If you wish to pursue becoming a tutor, please consider talking with your professors and asking them to submit a nomination on your behalf.
